Project Mission: Build solar-powered wells for irrigation, sanitation, and health.

Mothers in the Turkana region of northwest Kenya used to expect half of their children to die before they reached 2 years of age. Deaths were nearly always related to contaminated water.

In 2012, WFLL completed 24 wells in Turkana, saving lives physically and spiritually. $2,500 provides a well and hand pump that provides safe, clean water for an entire village community. The cost includes the well casing, pump, the drilling team, transportation, materials, training and support.

Project Mission: Transportation business to help rural villagers improve physical health and economy.

In rural Africa, transportation is a major obstacle and significant determining factor in a community's quality of life. Improved mobility opens doors of opportunity by providing rural village people with a means to secure water and food items from the traveling market and to transport items for sale, construction materials and even people.

This project will help provide 5 Basic Utility Vehicles (BUVs) and launch a small business model in rural Tanzania. The BUV was designed to help the poor around the world. The BUV is a 3-wheel vehicle with a 10 HP engine and provides a payload of around 1200 pounds. The BUV is a low maintenance vehicle with a multifunctional use.

BUVs serve the vital needs of a community: transporting the sick; hauling food, wood, and water. These vehicles also enable people to earn a livelihood and generate income by delivering crops to market and transporting materials for themselves and others. BUVs are a tool that enables people to provide for themselves.

Project Mission: Human trafficking / Agriculture

More people are in bondage to slavery today than at any point in human history. Northern Thailand serves as a gateway to the world for human traffickers, as well as a playground for child sex tourists. This encourages the exploitation of orphans and children from poor communities in Thailand. These children, and the rural villages they come from, remain the highest risk groups for human trafficking and slavery in Thailand.

Adoption is not common in Thailand and due to restrictive Thai laws these children do not have much hope of an international adoption. Some children can escape the danger of being sold into slavery by being placed into a children’s home.

A long-term response requires a model that allows children’s homes to sustain themselves while providing the children with life skills and education. The Genesis Children’s Home + Training Center will combine a children’s home with an agricultural training center to establish a sustainable model for caring for children at risk.

The center will also provide a springboard for further holistic community development. The center is already farming rice, and will purchase additional land to build adequate housing for children and to start a pig farm and other agricultural projects.

From June to December of 2012, $1+ of all proceeds from every item we sold was given to  Missions of Hope International in Kenya. MoHI works together with local organizations and churches all over the world to spiritually, physically, socially and economically empower the people of Kenya by providing education opportunities, basic health care, economically empowering services, counseling and guidance with the aim of creating self-reliant and responsible citizens. MoHI is currently in the process of building a community center in Nairobi's Mathare Valley slum, which will serve to fulfill the needs mentioned above as well as create a safe-haven in the heart of a tumultuous region. In June 2011, I had the privilege of spending 2 weeks in Kenya working alongside the amazing teachers and social workers who provide empowerment for the future and give hope to the hopeless every single day.
